birthday blues?

Tuesday was, among a great variety of other things, the 26th birthday of the nation of Zimbabwe. Oh yeah, and my 26th birthday as well. The only real thing of note that took place was that I signed a lease with Min and Wendy for a three-bedroom apartment that starts at the beginning of June. I had wanted to go out for dinner with a few friends, but Tsukasa had to work on short notice, I never heard back from Violet, and Wendy said that she would only go with me if I paid for her meal. Am I the only one who finds that unusual?

For that matter, she also gave me a lecture the following day on how I have too many female friends. She sees it as being highly unorthodox and worthy of concern, although I'm not entirely sure what's prompting her interest - at one point she phrased it as, "if we're out together and you also have a lot of girls there with you, and someone sees that, what are they going to think?" Put that way I'm not sure if she's worried people will question my sexual orientation or if it's more a matter of her worrying about what people will think of her if we have a relationship and they see me with a lot of other girls. She said something else that made me think it could be the latter reason, but I can't remember what it was exactly.

It took a lot of wrangling, but it looks like Friday night will feature dinner and mahjongg {麻雀} with a few people (at least Tsukasa, Wendy, and Violet), Sunday I'll be going out for lunch with Yuka and Takashi, and some time next week I'll do something with two guys from my cultural ecology class who look after a tank of pufferfish, boxfish, and cowfish at the university. And somewhere in there I have to find time to write two 8+ page papers. Crap.

By the way, I received a card from my mom that read:
Hope you have a wonderful time on your birthday and that you find someone to spend the day with.

Considering how often she asks me when she should expect to be a grandmother I'm surprised she didn't write "someone special" in there instead. Still, it seems to suggest that she doesn't have much faith in my ability to make friends. Thanks for the vote of encouragement, mom.

Happy birthday, samedi!

if we're out together and you also have a lot of girls there with you, and someone sees that, what are they going to think?

So the trick is to have the proper ratio of guys:girls to make people think it's the latter and not the former? I would rather just go out with friends without worrying about what other people will think of me ... plus, most of the guys I know would much rather stay at home playing computer games than go out for an activity.

i think it depends on how you dress too.
pink dress shirt: gay.
pink baseball cap flipped to the back a la russell simmons: pimp.

but seriously: duh, who the hell cares what people think of you!

I'm still psyched at the fact that you can pee at the comfort of your own room in your new apartment. And right after that, you can brush your teeth. Mmmmm.. Just be careful not to drop the bursh. *LOL*

I can pee in the comfort of my own room right now ... the real difference is that it would leave a stain in the rug, while in my new apartment I'll be able to go in the sink for easy clean-up. :P
